The holidays are a great time to reflect on the past year, and to say thank you to those who have helped make it special.
This year, I’m especially grateful for family and friends. I’m also thankful for your friendship and support of our campaign for mayor.
This week I spent the day with my friend Stephanie Bowman who I met in 1999. Stephanie is the founder of One Heart for Women and Children, a nonprofit 501c3 organization in Orlando, FL.
We spent time at a women’s shelter on a special day when their children were allowed to visit. We gave toys to the children who ranged from toddlers to teenagers, and gifts to the mothers. In 1999, I worked at this same shelter and I’ve seen women make it out to live a productive life, and I’ve known some who didn’t make it to see the next year.
This makes me reflect on how some people may not think this is the most wonderful time of the year because of their circumstances. This has renewed my determination to restore families who have fallen on hard times, to help children who are in tough situations, and to be a mayor who cares about doing what’s right for the people of Orlando every single day.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you are doing to make this a reality.
I hope to see you out on the campaign trail.
Let’s make history together.
